Turn visits into conversations
Almost every small business I look at is told it needs more traffic. Usually it does not. Usually the visitors are already arriving and quietly leaving again.
This is about the gap between somebody looking at your business and somebody contacting it — which is where most of the loss happens, and where nobody is watching.
Get your free Presence CheckThis is probably your problem if any of this sounds familiar
- You get visitors to the site but hardly any enquiries from it.
- Your contact form goes to an inbox nobody checks reliably, or you are not certain it works at all.
- People ring you and you cannot always answer, and those calls do not come back.
- Enquiries sometimes sit for a day or two before anybody replies.
- You could not say where your last ten enquiries came from.
- The only way to contact you is a form at the bottom of a contact page.
What this actually involves
Testing whether your enquiry path actually works
The first thing I do is submit your own form and see what happens. It is not unusual to find it going nowhere, going to an address nobody monitors, or being silently rejected. This is the single most common serious fault I find, and it is invisible from the inside because a broken form still shows the visitor a thank-you message.
Making the next step obvious on every page
A visitor should never have to work out what to do next or scroll to find it. One clear action, repeated consistently, in the same place, in language that says what will actually happen — not "submit", not "learn more".
More than one way to get in touch
People have preferences. Some will fill in a form, some want to call, some will only ever send a message if it takes ten seconds. Giving them one option means losing the ones who wanted another, and the ones you lose never tell you.
Something worth contacting you for
Not everybody is ready to buy the first time they find you. Offering something genuinely useful before the sale — an honest assessment, a straight answer to the question they arrived with — starts a conversation with people who would otherwise have left and never come back.
Fast, consistent replies
Speed of reply decides more jobs than price does. The first business to respond usually gets the conversation, and everyone after that is competing for second place. We set it up so a reply goes out quickly and reliably, including on the days you are flat out.
Knowing where each enquiry came from
Every enquiry arrives tagged with how that person found you. Within a couple of months you can stop guessing which of your efforts is worth repeating, and start putting time into the one that is actually producing work.
Not losing calls you cannot take
If you are on a job, on a roof, or with a customer, the phone still rings. There are straightforward ways to make sure that call still turns into a booked enquiry rather than a missed one — and yes, some of them use software, but only where a person genuinely cannot be there.
What you should expect to change
- Every enquiry reaches you, and you can prove it does.
- Visitors have an obvious next step, wherever they are on the site.
- New enquiries get a fast reply without you having to be at a desk.
- Calls you cannot answer stop disappearing.
- You know which channel produced each enquiry.
- You can tell whether a change made things better or worse, because it is being measured.
Why this usually beats spending more on getting found
If a hundred people find you and two get in touch, doubling your visitors gets you two more enquiries and costs you real money. Fixing why the other ninety-eight left costs a fraction of that and works on the traffic you already have — including all the traffic you paid for last year and did not convert.
It is also faster. Improvements to visibility take months to show up in search results. Improvements to how well your site converts the people already arriving show up almost immediately, because you are not waiting on anyone else to change their mind about you.
The reason this gets skipped is that it is harder to see. Nobody sends you an email to say they visited your site, could not tell whether you served their area, and went elsewhere. The loss is real but silent, which is exactly why it is worth measuring rather than guessing at.
For a local business the stakes are higher again, because the pool of people searching for what you do near you is finite. There is no more of it available at any price. Getting a larger share of the same demand is the only lever that actually scales, and it is the one most businesses never pull.
What comes after this
Once enquiries are arriving reliably and being answered quickly, the next problem is consistency. Doing it well when you are on top of things is not the same as doing it well every week, including the ones where everything goes wrong.
Make what works happen every timeQuestions about this specifically
Is this the same as running ads for me?
No. This is about making sure that the people who already reach you get in touch. If you are running ads, this work makes them cheaper by getting more out of the same spend — but I would want this fixed before you spent anything further on getting more visitors.
Will you write the replies for me?
I will help you work out what a good first reply says and set it up so it goes out reliably. I will not pretend to be you. The point is that your voice reaches people faster, not that it gets replaced.
I am worried automated replies will feel impersonal.
That is a fair worry and a common failure. A fast, plain acknowledgement that a real person has your message and when they will come back to you beats silence every time. What it should never do is pretend to be a conversation it is not.
How will I know if any of this worked?
Because it gets measured from the start. You will be able to see enquiries, where they came from, and whether the number went up. If it does not, we look at why rather than carrying on regardless.
Not sure this is your problem?
The Presence Check takes about three minutes and tells you which of the three areas is actually costing you the most right now. It might not be this one.
